PRESS RELEASE: Any Second Amendment–Loving American Should Be Alarmed

RightCount WI State Chair Warns DOJ Voter Roll Lawsuit Sets Dangerous Federal Precedent

WISCONSIN –
The U.S. Department of Justice announced a lawsuit this week targeting states that declined to provide full voter roll information to the federal government. In Wisconsin, election administrators chose not to release a complete, unredacted voter list in order to comply with state privacy laws that protect sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, home addresses, and other identifying data. That decision was made by the Wisconsin Elections Commission in a bipartisan 5–1 vote.

“Any Second Amendment–loving American should be alarmed by the precedent this lawsuit would set,” said RightCount Wisconsin State Chair Jim Steineke. “If this standard had existed under a previous Obama or Biden administration, what would stop Washington from demanding a list of registered gun owners in every state?”

Steineke continued, “Once states give up control over sensitive citizen data, future presidents could exploit that authority and trample constitutional rights. Wisconsin should absolutely continue working to strengthen election integrity – but that work must be done by the state, not dictated by federal bureaucrats who have no role in administering Wisconsin elections.”
