ICYMI: Wisconsin has the expertise to run its own elections

Milwaukee, WI — In case you missed it, State Representatives Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc) and Patrick Snyder (R-Weston) penned a letter to the editor in The Cap Times this week commending local leaders in Wisconsin for standing up for the fact that Wisconsin runs its elections, not the elections.

In the letter to the editor, Reps. Kurtz and Snyder wrote, “At a moment when trust in the election process is often tested, we want to commend three Wisconsin leaders who chose principle over pressure: former Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke, Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski, and Oconto County Clerk Kim Pytleski.”

Reps. Kurtz and Snyder note that standing up in the face of leaders who try to dictate how the state should run its elections takes courage.

“Over the past four years, we’ve seen Democratic and Republican administrations in Washington seek to dictate to Wisconsin how we should run our elections,” Reps. Kurtz and Snyder wrote. “In this competitive and contentious political environment, it takes courage to publicly defend constitutional boundaries. Steineke, Lipski, and Pytleski deserve recognition for standing up for Wisconsin voters. Their example reminds us that safeguarding elections begins with honoring the Constitution and trusting the states — and the people — who are charged with carrying it out.”
